Renaissance - 1975 to present
The business was first started by Michael Smaldon in 1975 and initally was known as Bruva - as many customers still remember and know us by. The business was the first in the UK to import shrunk-wrapped packs of tongued and grooved cladding sold through many large DIY chains. The product range expanded, and Swedish pine garden furniture became a key product range.
Around 1985 the business took a turn in focus, partly due to the predictably unpredictable Great British Summer Weather, and also due to an introduction to a new product - net rods. This was the first venture into curtain accessories. Over time the range has grown, and now there are about 12,000 products listed on the system...
In 1996 the business moved from Beck Mill in Bradford, to The Old Dog Mill in Yeadon, only about one mile from Leeds and Bradford International Airport.
Michael's two eldest sons joined him in the business in 1998, and his third son joined in 2003.
The business has gone from strength to strength, and in Easter last year the company moved from The Old Dog Mill premises (built in 1779) to the current industrial unit on Focus Way (built in 2005).
