Founded in 1975, Renaissance has evolved significantly from its humble beginnings. Our current offerings, though much advanced, are deeply rooted in our core values and strengths. Founding
Initially known as “Bruva”, a name by which many customers still remember us. The company was the first in the UK to import shrunk-wrapped packs of timber and tongued & grooved cladding sold through Timber Merchants and DIY stores. As our product range expanded we added Swedish pine garden furniture and a variety of other timber products.
In the 1980s the business took a turn in focus, partly due to the unpredictable British summer weather and also due to the introduction of a new product, Swedish Pine Curtain Poles. This was our first venture into curtain accessories and over the next decades, our range developed – growing to over 10,000 product SKUs – all bearing the Renaissance Brand of quality.
Our Growth
In 1996 the business moved from Beck Mill in Clayton, Bradford to The Old Mill in Yeadon, Leeds, both premises steeped in textile history dating back to the 18th Century.
Over time Renaissance has grown to be a true family business – the founder’s two eldest sons joining the company in 1998, and his third son and daughter soon after. The business continues to grow from strength to strength. In April 2015 the company moved to our current modern large industrial unit in Yeadon close to Leeds and Bradford International Airport.
The Old Mill Shop
Home to Renaissance 1996–2015
The Old Dog Mill’s rich history dates back to 1792. Built by Joseph Cawthray T’owd Dog (as it was known locally) was the first steam-powered mill in the town of Yeadon.
In 1905 the original Mill was devastated by a fire that started in a Dye House. The blaze left the building unrecognizable, with the loss of 140 jobs, miraculously there were no casualties.
